The riders

Daniel Nicolas

Your Time Starts Now:

I first decided to ride in the Tour de Kids because… It sounded like a great idea to do something with your mates and help children at the same time.

My motivation for supporting Starlight and the other charities… If you have the opportunity to make a small difference, then you have an obligation to do so.

I’m most inspired by… my wife and Fred Hollows.

My first bike was…a Fuji Team purchased for $300 to see if I liked riding. It sat in the garage for 3 months untouched.

Before I ride I must always…have a coffee.

My toughest Tour de Kids moment was…Shepparton to Albury. Picture this, 35 degrees, severe crosswinds on a dead flat road that seemingly went nowhere… I had not trained for riding a bike sideways.

My greatest Tour de Kids moment was… Visiting a Starlight room at Launceston Hospital and of course crossing the finish line at Dead Horse Gap on the last day in 2007.

The other riders say I am…deaf.

My favorite gadget is…a Garmin GPS bike computer.

If I wasn’t me I’d like to be…I like who I am, perfectly happy being myself.

If only I could…Stop child abuse

If I wasn’t riding I would be… skiing, running, swimming …and probably working.
