Wow, a 10 year phenomonen, Tour de Kids looks forward to its very special 10 year anniversary ride. Having raised $3.5m for Starlight over the last 10 years, the group of riders that make up Tour de Kids are gearing up for 2010!
From the coffee culture of Melbourne to the sea side city of Sydney, 40 cyclists will peddle the 1100 kms through country side and mountains alike on Tour de Kids 2010. The course this year will be tough indeed.
Although we have a few flat days to start in country Victoria, admiring the 'serenity' in Bonnydoon on the way, we'll be psyching up for Mt Buffalo, Mt Beauty and Mt Koscisuko National Park that will test us considerably. We'll aim to make it through the mountains stages and into Cooma in one piece as we start the home stretch to Sydney via Canberra and Bowral.
The riders commit a lot to the cause every year as they not only train by riding around 350km per week for at least 14 weeks prior but also pay their own costs ($2200) to ensure that all money raised goes straight to the Starlight Childrens Foundation.
This wouldn't be possible without the great assistance of our supporters such as Caltex, Virgin Blue, Crowne Plaza, Harvey Norman, Colliers International, G Brothers and Orix whose corporate support makes this possible and of course the individuals that donate their time and make up our support crew for the week, keeping us safe and fed!
